Simon Smith
Having followed a successful career in engineering and qualifying as a chartered engineer, Simon turned to furniture design and manufacture in 1994. After completing an apprenticeship and training, latterly at Parnham College in , Simon set up his studio in Acton in 1997.
Utilising traditional design methods and the latest in computer modelling techniques the aim is to make beautifully designed pieces which not only perform well and are a joy to use but also change people's consciousness and heighten their awareness of the conditions in which they live.
The concepts of the design are derived from careful consideration of the individual brief, taking into account not only the client's requirements and intended environment but also comfort, performance and overall fitness for purpose.
The resulting concepts represent solutions which are both innovative and appropriate, which when combined with the highest standard of craftmanship culminate in the production of an enduring and unique piece.
Each brief is different and so each piece tells its own story. There is no single dominant design style, however the designs often possess simplicity of form and well defined lines giving each piece a sharp fresh presence.
