Andrew Lawton

For over twenty years Andrew has been designing and making fine furniture for the home, office and public buildings at his purpose-built workshop in the Peak District.

Although tried and tested traditional cabinetmaking techniques are used, augmented by modern materials and technology, his designs reach out beyond merely reproducing styles and ideas from the past, without self consciously striving for novelty. Timber from properly managed sources, often locally grown, is used wherever possible, including cherry, oak, sycamore, walnut and yew.

Commissioning furniture is not difficult and Andrew hopes to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Enquiries are welcome for any project which needs individual and distinctive handling, from a single small item to complete room schemes. Bespoke furniture can never be cheap, but he enjoys the challenge of designing simple, well made furniture to a tight budget, as well as the more elaborate, time consuming pieces.

Customers are encouraged to visit the workshop where a number of finished pieces are usually on view, including items for direct sale,in the small showroom, which also houses an extensive portfolio of previous commissions. The workshop is easy to get to by road and rail. By prior arrangement clients can be met at either Grindleford or Chesterfield station [journey time from London 2 hours].
