Christine Meyer Eaglestone
Coming from a Fine Art background, I was introduced to marquetry during a cabinetmaking course at Leeds College of Art. Since then, I have combined previous experience and a fascination with architectural and furniture design to create contemporary marquetry which I employ on both wall-panels (sometimes large-scale and site-specific) and functional pieces like screens, mirrors, chests, boxes and cabinets. Receiving a Crafts Council Setting-up grant in 2000 allowed me to purchase the necessary equipment to set up workshop (Leeds) and create these one-off pieces which I sell through galleries or produce to commission. I use both conventional and 'reconstructed' dyed wood veneers (often in combination) in my abstract designs, which range from minimal to complex.
