James Codrington
James Codrington Furniture is a small company dedicated to designing and making fine contemporary furniture, to the unique requirements of the individual commissioning client. Fundamental to all our work is a meticulous attention to detail from design through every stage of manufacture to the finished piece.
We are committed to creating furniture that is designed as well as made to last. Therfore each piece we make starts with a carfully considered and resolved design. We favor clean simple lines in precise proportion, with details that unite and enhance the whole form rather than adding to it.
Every piece of furniture we produce is handmade with passion for exellence. All processes are carried out at our fully equipped workshops allowing complete control at every stage. We generally favour home grown hardwoods and veneers, and avoid the use of timbers from endangered species or from non-sustainable sources.
James read The History and Theory of Art and Architecture at Kent University. He trained as a designer maker at Rycotewood College, Thame, where he won the Michaelis Award for the best piece of original design. His training continued with two of Londons leading furniture makers before setting up his own business in 1989.
Edmund Stephens studied Furniture Design and Craftmanship at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. Following graduation, he joined James Codrington Furniture in August 2000.
Stuart Webster also studied Furniture Design and Craftmaship at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University Collage, and joined James Codrington Furniture in October 2002, having gained six years' experience making award-winning pieces for another leading furniture designer maker.
