From a background steeped in the visual arts; both his mother and sister are accomplished painters; Jonathan originally studied engineering and photography but gravitated towards working with wood, a medium within which he could combine his technical, artistic and creative talents.
I want my furniture to be a delight and pleasure to use. It is important during the design process, to remember that a special piece of furniture will have many lives beyond its first use.
Working on restoration projects in Pennsylvania, Languedoc and the New Town of Edinburgh; as well as many modern furniture installations; Jonathan developed a deep understanding of the proportion and detail of interior architecture. After making numerous Georgian neo-classical pieces and period fittings, Jonathan began to suggest to his clients that they could employ him to create new pieces of original furniture, contemporary architectural details and handmade fitted furniture.
Furniture that expresses a clean contemporary sense of design that sits comfortably in period settings, whilst contributing a handmade quality into more contemporary interiors, through the use of fine timbers, traditional quality and individual design solutions.
