Matthew Burt
The furniture of Matthew Burt, an independent designer/maker, unconstrained by manufacturing dogma: modern pieces, functional apt and of enduring design and construction. Matthew Burt established his Wiltshire workshops in the 1970s and has a considerable depth of experience in designing and making to briefs from both the domestic and corporate markets. Alongside his work, the Splinter Group showroom sells his low volume production pieces.
The work of Matthew Burt is represented on the Crafts Council's Index of Selected Makers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Society Of Designer Craftsmen and a visiting tutor at The Furniture College, Letterfrack, Ireland. He has been awarded the Craft Guild Mark from the Worshipful Company Of Furniture Makers, and a RHS award for outstanding presentation, Chelsea Flower Show 2000. In 2001, he won the Master's Gold Award from the Worshipful Company.
Recent major exhibitions include Fresh Air at Quenington Sculpture Trust, Furniture for the 21st Century in Whitehall and the Chelsea Crafts Fair. He has shown at Chelsea Flower Show and House and Garden/Daily Telegraph Fair.
Recent clients are the André; Simon Memorial Trust, Community Action Network/Stanton Guildhouse, North London Collegiate School, and Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
